Today, i wanna share my knowledge & my personal view about protein, what is the basic form of protein, types of protein, the functions of it, why we need to take enough protein everyday, what happen if we are lacking of it, and what happen if kita terlebih consume protein... will it be dangerous to our body? hehehe... banyak betul persoalan.
PROTEIN??
Protein ialah molekul kompleks yang terdiri daripada beberapa rangkaian Asid amino. Dengan kata lain, Asid amino ialah molekul kecil yang akan membentuk protein yang sangat diperlukan oleh tubuh manusia.
Fungsi utama Protein ialah :
1. Catalyzing metabolic reactions,
2. Replicating DNA,
3. Responding to stimuli, and
4. Transporting molecules from one location to another.
5. For cell renewal
6. Proteins are essential nutrients for the human body. They are one of the building blocks of body tissue, and can also serve as a fuel source (Sekiranya habis lemak dalam badan kita, protein boleh membakar untuk menghasilkan tenaga sekiranya diperlukan oleh tubuh).
Amino acids can be divided into three categories:
Essential amino acids : cannot be made by the body, and must be supplied by food.
Essential amino acids are leucine, isoleucine, valine, lysine, threonine, tryptophan, methionine,phenylalanine and histidine.
Non-essential amino acids : made by the body from essential amino acids or in the normal breakdown of proteins. Non-essential amino acids include alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid and glutamic acid.
Conditional amino acids : usually not essential, except in times of illness, stress or for someone challenged with a lifelong medical condition
Conditional amino acids include arginine, cysteine, glutamine, glycine,proline, serine, and tyrosine.
Amino acids are found in animal sources such as meats, milk, fish and eggs. Proteins are also available via the plant sources: whole grains, pulses, legumes, soy, fruits, nuts and seeds. Vegetarians and vegans can get enough essential amino acids by eating a variety of plant proteins.
What happen if you are lack of proteins??
Have you ever seen kids in third world countries with seemingly ‘bloated’ bellies? Well this got me wondering. How did these kids, who obviously have little food to eat, have bloated tummies? After putting aside my guesses of a possible tape worm or swelling of organs. Curiosity got the better of me and I looked into what the actualcondition that these kids have.

So this condition is called Kwashiorkor. Due to the lack of protein in a child’s diet, leading to malnutrition and a bloated looking belly.
Selain daripada penyakit di atas, mereka yang kekurangan protein juga akan mengalami simtom berikut:
1. Kuku dan rambut mudah patah/putus
2. Kulit muka dan badan tidak bermaya (lingkaran mata gelap)
3. Berat badan berkurangan
4. Skin rashes/ dan kulit mudah bersisik
5. Cramp muscles dan sakit sendi
6. Luka lambat sembuh
7. Mudah pening kepala & pitam
What happen if you are overdosed with protein??
Reports have also proven that excessive use of protein nutrition supplements tends to disturb metabolic balance in your body which can lead to severe complications. Metabolic imbalance occurs when amino acids contained in such supplements enter your body and disturb the function of amino acids already present therein.
Sports nutrition supplements containing high levels of amino acids are dangerous for your health as they cause severe pain in and cramping of muscles and also lead to diarrhea and gout.
A research team from the University of Connecticut in 2002 found that it's healthier to increase your water intake if you follow a high protein diet. The digestion of protein requires you to drink extra water. Protein can tax the kidneys because it increases your blood urea nitrogen levels, which need to be filtered out into the urine. Drinking extra fluids along with protein powders can protect your kidneys by helping to dilute toxic by-products of protein breakdown. This also helps prevent dehydration and kidney stones related to increased protein intake.
